NEW IN 2008
Seeds of Faith Initiative
Choosing Community over Isolation
Listening for God and helping others
to turn to God are the goals of our new Seeds of Faith initiative. You are
invited to enter into God’s Word and prayer, and to help others do so as well,
together with a circle or group of friends. Just as resolutions to exercise and
diet go better when you have someone to do it with you, so it is with the
practice of Bible reading and faithful living, and with prayer. In this new
church year, we will be cultivating a variety of communal plantings of Seeds of
Faith: Bible study groups, prayer groups, and education groups for all ages seem
logical for a church!
Leaders of existing education
classes, circles and service groups are invited to join in the training events
being offered, to find ideas to renew and reinvigorate your groups. As the year
goes on, we will also equip members of Prince of Peace to create new networks of
people who share a personal interest, an activity or a passion, and to create
these networks with an intentional commitment to worship and prayer.
Adult Faith Education Training in
Seattle Jan. 18-20
Training will be provided for you to
become a leader in the Seeds of Faith process. The first training takes place
from Friday evening, January 18, through Sunday, January 20, at Phinney Ridge
Lutheran Church in Seattle. Phinney Ridge has long had a strong program of adult
faith development. The program, called the Way, assists people in making the
transition from the religion of their childhood (or lack of religion in their
childhood) to a mature, responsible life of Christian faith. If you would like
to learn more about this process at Phinney Ridge, and help design and create an
adult faith formation process for our congregation, please write a note to
Pastor Pam and drop it in her mail file, to make sure you are included in
the training group. Circle leaders, Sunday School teachers, Vacation Bible
school teachers, this is for you, too!
Small Group Leadership Training at
Prince of Peace
Saturday, February 9
Pastor Eileen Hansen of Trinity
Lutheran Church will offer a day of teaching on organizing and leading small
groups, Sat. Feb. 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. In the last year or so, Trinity has
had a joyous response to the development of small groups that bring members and
worshippers at Trinity closer together, while at the same time creating many new
paths for people to become part of the Trinity community. Pastor Hansen will
bring ideas and experience so that we, too, can plant the seeds of new growth in
wisdom and faith.
Again, please write a note to Pastor Pam and drop it in her mail file, to
make sure you are included in the training group.
